Curtis Bowen

Curtis holds a master's degree in clinical mental health from Nova Southeastern University and a bachelor's degree in business and organizational leadership from Valencia College. Currently, Curtis is a Registered Mental Health Intern specializing in working with athletes navigating the psychological and emotional challenges of sports injuries, rehabilitation, and returning to competition. Curtis not only sees individuals recovering from injury; he also treats depression, anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and many other mental health diagnoses.

Being an Official for the NCAA gives Curtis a unique insight into how athletes think, react, and cope under pressure, as well as gives him a valuable understanding of how injuries affect confidence, identity, and emotional regulation. He is immersed in the competitive and cultural context that athletes are playing in and trying to return to, giving him an understanding of their challenges, motivations, and inner workings. Curtis also has experience working directly with athletes at Daytona State College across numerous sports programs. Not only did Curtis work with athletes; he worked with individuals across all life stages and ages from different socioeconomic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. This environment has strengthened his understanding of cultural differences, enhanced his ability to communicate diverse perspectives, and improved his capacity to provide inclusive, culturally responsive care.

My mission is to help others navigate life’s challenges without having to face them alone—to be someone who listens, cares, and reminds them that their life has unique value and purpose. I believe every person has a unique story worth hearing, and I find fulfillment in helping clients gain awareness, work through unfinished business, and move toward greater growth, authenticity, and fulfillment.

Curtis draws on the latest research in Gestalt, solution-focused, experiential, humanistic, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), schema, and person-centered, as well as other modalities and therapies, to best help his clients. Curtis is also certified in suicide prevention through Living Works Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
